Eliminations

Yesterday we posted three of the players that received a lot of criticism. De Ligt sunk 21 places due to his red card and the following elimination of the Netherlands. Not only de Ligt was losing popularity, Daley Blind and Berghuis lost 11 and 12 spots within the Dutch team. The elimination was reason for the head coach of the Flying Dutchmen Frank de Boer to resign.

It’s not all doom and gloom for the Orange Lions. Two young talents rose in the popularity rankings. Cody Gakpo gained 6 spots while Jurrien Timber gained 10 spots within this Dutch team. Besides these two talents right back Denzelf Dumfries stole the hearths of the fans with his offensive style of play.

For Germany Leroy Sane lost 8 spots while Lukas Klostermann lost 18 places within their own team. The opposite happened for a couple of other players. Robin Gosens gained 11 spots and is the most popular player of Germany right now. Mats Hummels was one of the least popular players for Germany in our previous blog. He gained 22 spots and is the number four in the current standings. Also, Kevin Trapp, Leon Goretzka and Christian Gunter all gained 14 spots after the elimination.

For France Ousmane Dembele was the player who lost the most spots (15) for France while Mike Maignan gained a lot of spots. He did not play on the European Championship, so this is mainly due to his transfer to AC Milan. Wonderkid Kylian Mbappe lost 5 spots. The main reason seems to be the missed penalty. Of course, people are expecting a lot of the 22-year-old star.

The competitors

Let’s look at the teams that are still active at the European Championship. For England Jordan Pickford is the player that gained a lot of popularity and is in the top three of most popular players of the England team now. Harry Maquire is the number two in the England squad after gaining a lot of support. Lastly, Kalvin Phillips is the most popular player of England. His performance during this tournament made his popularity rise. Ben White lost a lot of spots and is on the bottom of the rankings. He did not participate in any matchups so that is not strange.

Belgium made it through to the last eight teams in the tournament due to a goal of Thorgan Hazard. It is not strange to see him gain 20 spots within the Belgium squad. Thibaut Courtois gained 7 spots while Jeremy Doku (19-years-old) gained 12 spots.

Spain didn’t do very in the group stage. However, mega-talent Pedri gained 10 spots in the popularity rankings of the Spanish team. Cesar Azpilicueta and Pablo Sarabia gained 19 and 18 spots. Fabian Ruiz did not make a good impression and lost 15 spots.

For Italy Nicolo Barella lost his number one spot to Manuel Locatelli who scored two goals. Ciro Immobile gained 9 spots and Lorenzo Insigne gained 10 spots. Both attackers joined the top 5 now in Italy now. While Giacomo Raspadori was the one who gained the most with his 17 spots increase in the Popularity Rankings. Rafael Toloi and Gaetano Castrovilli sunk 18 and 17 spots while Francesco Acerbi fell down 9 spots.
