The Championship table

The competition includes 24 teams that fight for promotion to the Premier League. The team on top of the EFL Championship table and the team in second place will get their promotion, while the third spot for promotion will be determined after playoffs. The numbers 3 and 6 play each other in one semi-final, and the numbers 4 and 5 play each other. After that, a final will decide the other team that will get its promotion to the highest league in England. The three teams at the bottom of the EFL Championship table relegate to the League One.

Fulham is a club located in West London and was founded in 1879. The owner is Shahid Khan, and the head coach is Marco Silva. The home matches of Fulham are being played at Craven Cottage with a capacity of 25,700. The all-time top goalscorer is Gordon Davies with 178 goals. This record is not expected to be broken soon because Aleksandar Mitrović is the player with the most goals currently playing for Fulham with 60 goals. So, this gap is enormous. The highest transfer fee paid for a player is £22.8M. This was paid for André-Frank Zambo Anguissa in 2018. The highest payment received for a transfer fee is £25M for Ryan Sessegnon in 2019.

Blackburn Rovers is a club located in Blackburn, and they play their home matches in Ewood Park, which has a capacity of 31,367. The club was founded on 5 November 1875 and is owned by Venky’s investment group. Their current coach is Tony Mowbray. Their all-time top score is Alan Shearer, with 112 goals in 138 games. Even though he scored the most goals, he was not the player leaving for the highest transfer fee. This was the fee received for Andy Cole, who left for Manchester United for €12.2 million.

AFC Bournemouth is a club playing in Bournemouth which was founded in 1899. The club plays its home matches in Dean Court-Stadium with a capacity of 11,329. The owner is Maxim Demin, and the head coach is Scott Parker. The all-time top scorer is Joshua King, with 48 goals.

Queens Park Rangers was founded in 1882 when St Jude’s and Christchurch Rangers fused. The home games are played at Loftus Road, which has a capacity of 19,100. Les Ferdinand is the all-time top scorer with 81 goals.

West Bromwich Albion FC was founded in 1878 by Salter’s Spring Works employees in West Bromwich. West Brom plays its matches at The Hawthorns with a capacity of 26,850. The head coach is Valérien Ismaël. The all-time top scorer is Ronnie Allen, with 415 games and 210 goals.

Middlesbrough is also known as Boro and was founded in 1876. The home ground of Boro is the Riverside Stadium (34,742 capacity), located in Middlesbrough. The coach is Chris Wilder, and the all-time top scorer is George Camsell, while Tim Williamson is the player with the most appearances for the club. The highest transfer fee ever received is Adama Traoré, who left the club to go to Wolverhampton Wanderers for £18m.

Huddersfield Town FC was founded in 1908 and plays its home matches at the John Smiths Stadium, which offers room for 25,000 fans. The all-time top scorer is George Brown with 159 goals.

Nottingham Forest FC was founded in 1865. Therefore, it is one of the oldest football clubs worldwide that is still active. The team plays its home games at the City Ground, which has a capacity of 30,602. Also, it is known as the Trentside. Ian Storey-Moore is the all-time top scorer with 105 goals.

Coventry City FC has existed since 1883. Since 2021 the club is back at the Coventry Building Society Arena, which has a capacity of 32,753 for football games. Also, it is used for concerts and has a capacity of 40,000. Dion Dublin is the all-time top scorer with 62 goals.

Luton Town FC was founded in 1885 and plays at the Kenilworth Road Stadium in Luton. The stadium has a capacity of 10,356. Steve Howard was the club’s top scorer for five seasons in a row (2001-02 to 2005-06. However, Gordon Turner is the all-time top scorer with 276 goals. Steve Howard is only the number six on this list.

Peterborough United FC plays its home matches at the Weston Homes Stadium, which has a capacity of 15,314. Craig Mackail-Smith is the all-time top scorer with 99 goals.

 

Stoke City FC was founded in 1863 and is the second oldest professional football club globally. Only, Notts County FC is older. The home games are played at the Britannia Stadium, with a capacity of 30,089. Freddie Steele is the all-time top scorer.

Preston North End FC was founded in 1881 and plays in the Deepdale stadium (23,404). It was the first football champion of England. Therefore, it was the first football champion in the world as well. The current coach is Frankie McAvoy. The all-time top scorer is Tom Finney with 163 goals.

Blackpool FC was founded in 1887. The club was accepted for joining the Football League in 1896 but was deleted in 1899. A year later, they were added to the league again. Now they are playing in the Championship. Their home ground is Bloomfield Road which has a capacity of 17,338. Neil Critchley is the head coach, while Simon Sadler is the owner.

Millwall FC was founded in 1885. The coach is Gary Rowett. The home matches are being played in The Den, which has a capacity of 20,146. The club has its own documentary named “No one likes us, we don’t care.

Bristol City is one of the two professional clubs in Bristol. The club was founded in 1897 and plays at Ashton Gate with a capacity of 27,000. At the moment, Nigel Pearson is the coach. Another interesting fact is that they are called The Robins. The all-time top scorer is John Atyeo.

Barnsley FC was founded in 1887 and was named Barnsley St. Peter. The club plays its home games at the Oakwell Stadium, which has a capacity of 23,287. The head coach is Markus Schopp. Interesting is that Barnsley has two all-time top scorers (at the moment of writing). Cauley Woodrow and Bruce Dyer both scored 53 goals.
