Germany and the player stats

Best German players

Some of the most prominent players in the world are Germans. In 2014 Mario Götze scored the winning goal in the World Cup final to clinch the World Cup for Germany! And what to think of the keepers? Manuel Neuer and Marc-André ter Stegen are fighting for the spot in the national team’s goal.

What do you think of Lothar Matthäus, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Michael Ballack, Miroslav Klose, Philipp Lahm, Franz Beckenbauer, Rudi Völler and Gerd Müller? All were terrific German players. More recently, Toni Kroos, Leon Goretzka, Thomas Müller, Marco Reus, Joshua Kimmich and many other outstanding players are from Germany. A lot of these players play for Bayern München or Borussia Dortmund. Also, Chelsea has a couple of Germans in their squad now.

Best German teams

FC Bayern München is one of the best teams in the world, and it is by far the most successful club in the Bundesliga. They are always the favourites at the start of the season to win the Bundesliga. However, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are always trying to compete. At the end of the season, there will be six German teams that will qualify for the European tournaments via the Bundesliga.

German teams in Europe

The Germans are a force to be reckoned with in the Champions League. FC Bayern München has won the Champions League six times, while Borussia Dortmund and Hamburger SV won the Champions League once.

The German national team

It isn’t for nothing that Gary Lineker said: “Football is a simple game, twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win.”

The German national team won a record of prizes. Germany won four World Cups (1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014) and three European Cups (1972, 1980 and 1996). The women won two World Cups and eight European Cups. Germany is the only country that won a World Cup and European Cup with men and women.

The German national team plays at different stadiums when playing at home in Germany. So far, they have played in 43 different cities. The city of Berlin is used most often (46 times). The other cities in the top 3 are Hamburg (34) and Stuttgart (32) at the moment of writing.

National player records

The player with the most played matches for Germany is Lothar Matthäus (in 1980-2000). With 150 appearances, he will keep this record on his mail for a while. The top 5 players are not active for the German team anymore. The first players that are currently active are Thomas Müller (110 caps) and Manuel Neuer (108 caps).
