Spanish teams are dominating Europe

Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona are always competitive. The top of the La Liga table is often close with a minimum point difference. In the 2020/2021 season, the competition champion was decided on the final matchday!

These top-tier teams are not only dominating their national competition. Football clubs from Spain are dominating the European competitions as well. Not only the teams as mentioned earlier in the UEFA Champions League, but also in the UEFA Europa League.

Sevilla and Villareal perform excellently in the Europa League and sometimes even in the Champions League. This often results in up to 6(!) Spanish teams competing in the European competitions.

Social media dominance
The Spanish teams are not only dominating the football grounds. Los Blancos have the biggest following on social media platforms. The rivals from Catalonia are closing in with second place despite the disappointing results in the 2021/2022 La Liga rankings.

History of the La Liga

The Spanish La Liga was founded in 1929 with ten football clubs involved. Nowadays, the number of clubs in the competition has reached 20 professional football clubs.
