The Soccer API is probably the best choice for small/medium sites and budgets. I haven’t tried others in the same price range, though. So far, my development team has no big complaints about the API and the data provided is good, in 99,9% of cases.

Product is really good. All key parts that you can expect from sport API in this genre, are there without a doubt.

The API has good quality on functionality and speed. We have an application called “Casa das Apostas 2.0” where the users can create betting simulations choosing odds from partner sites. We use Sportmonks API to get real-time information about the matches chosen by the user, showing details in pre-match, live and post-match. Jesse was a trainee a few years back and stayed at Sportmonks as a backend developer. He has worked at Sportmonks for four years and has become important in the evolution of our Football API; he was one of the key players when we upgraded from API 2.0 to API 3.0.

Milan was an intern almost three years ago. He is a front-end developer and works on our customer portal (MySportmonks) and our Football Widgets. Milan makes sure our customers’ shopping experience is optimal. Besides that, he creates widgets with the data inside our API so other people can use our data without using our API.

Abe was a trainee less than a year ago. He is a backend developer and is working to improve odds data. “I enjoyed that I wasn’t a number and could work on important projects. I got involved in all kinds of projects and this way I was able to learn all kinds of new things.”

Sportmonks is an international company, and that is why we are looking abroad for trainees as well. So, let’s meet David! David is from Colombia and is a developer. He is working on a side project, which we cannot discuss yet.

Wesley was one of the first interns when Sportmonks started to become the real deal. He stayed at Sportmonks after his traineeship ended and worked his way up to marketing lead, which is a big responsibility.

I think the “include” parameter makes it quite flexible. It seems the API is more tailored towards application use cases where you request information needed for page X. However, in our case we needed something more like an ELT approach where we load all the data and model it in our database. That worked reasonably well with the “include” and “per_page” parameter. Without it, we might have needed a lot more API requests.
