Real Madrid
Real Madrid, also known as Los Blancos or Galácticos, was founded in 1902 with its home ground in Santiago Bernabéu. The Whites are the most successful club on European turf, having won the UEFA Champions League a record 15 times, twice as many as any other side. They are current La Liga champions (2023/24) after picking up a record 36th title. Madrid has won the Copa del Rey 20 times and the FIFA Club World Cup 5 times.
FC Barcelona
Madrid’s archrivals, FC Barcelona, were founded in 1899. Camp Nou remains their home ground despite ongoing renovations at the 93,000-capacity stadium. Barcelona has won 27 La Liga titles, 31 Copa del Rey titles, and 5 UEFA Champions League titles.
Sevilla Fútbol Club
Sevilla FC was founded in 1890. Its home matches are played at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, which has a capacity of 42,714. The club has won only one La Liga title but have won a record seven UEFA Europa League titles and five Copa del Rey titles.
Atlético Madrid
Atlético Madrid are also known as Colchoneros, which means Mattress Makers. The club was founded in 1903 and is located in Madrid. In the same city as Real Madrid, both teams are city rivals. Wanda Metropolitano, with a capacity of 68,456, is the home ground of Atlético. They are 11-time winners of the La Liga title and 10-time winners of the Copa del Rey title.
Real Betis
Real Betis, also known as Los Verdiblancos (The Green and Whites), was founded in 1907. Their home ground is the Estadio Benito Villamarín, which has a capacity of 60,720. Betis are one-time winners of La Liga and three-time winners of Copa del Rey.
Real Sociedad
Real Sociedad, also known as The White and Blues, was founded in 1909. Its home games are played in the Anoeta Stadium, which has a capacity of 39,500. Sociedad have won the La Liga twice and Copa del Rey three times.
Villarreal CF
Villarreal CF is also known as The Yellow Submarine. The club plays in Estadio de la Cerámica, which has a capacity of 23,500. Villarreal have never won the La Liga, but they became champions of the UEFA Europa League for the first time in 2020-21 under Unai Emery.
Club Atlético Osasuna
Osasuna is also known as Gorritxoak and was founded in 1920. The home ground is El Sadar, with a capacity of 23,576. Osasuna have never won the La Liga. However, they are two-time runners-up of Copa del Rey.
Valencia
Valencia, also known as the Bats, is a football club founded in 1919 that plays its home games in Mestalla. The stadium has a capacity of 48,600. Valencia have won the La Liga six times and the Copa del Rey eight times.
UD Las Palmas
Las Palmas is the club from Gran Canaria. It was founded in 1949 and plays its home games in the Estadio de Gran Canaria in Las Palmas, which has a capacity of 32,392. While they haven’t won La Liga, they finished second in 1968/69.
Deportivo Alavés
Founded on 1 July 1920 as Sport Friend’s Club, Alavés play in La Liga, being promoted back from the Segunda División in the 2022–23 season after beating rivals Levante in the 120th minute in the promotion playoff final.
Real Club Deportivo Mallorca, S.A.D.
Founded on 5 March 1916, RCD Mallorca currently competes in La Liga. Its home games are held at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix, which has a 23,142-seat capacity. While it has never won La Liga, they have once won the Copa del Rey title.
Girona
Girona Futbol Club, S.A.D. is a Spanish professional football club based in Girona, Catalonia. Founded on 23 July 1930, the team plays in La Liga, to which they gained promotion to the 2022 Segunda División play-offs. A remarkable 2023/24 La Liga season, in which they finished in third place, saw them qualify for their maiden appearance in the UEFA Champions League.
Athletic Club
Commonly known as just Athletic domestically and often as Athletic Bilbao or just Bilbao abroad, it is a professional football club based in the city of Bilbao in the Basque Country, Spain. Nicknamed the Lions, they are eight-time La Liga champions and have won the Copa del Rey 24 times.
Celta Vigo
Real Club Celta de Vigo, translated as ‘Royal Celtic Club of Vigo’, is commonly known as Celta Vigo. Founded in 1923, Celta have never won the league title or Copa del Rey, although they have reached the final three times in the latter.
Rayo Vallecano de Madrid S.A.D.
Rayo, for short, is a Spanish professional football club based in Madrid. Founded on 29 May 1924, the club is known for its sociocultural tradition. While their home games are played on El Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas, they are without any La Liga titles.
Getafe Club de Fútbol S.A.D.
The club was founded in 1983 and have been two-time Copa del Rey runners-up (2006–07, 2007–08). Since 1998, Getafe has played its home matches in the 16,500-capacity Estadio Coliseum.

Granada, founded in 1931, is from Andalusia. They play in Estadio Nuevo Los Cámenes, which has a capacity of 19,336. In the 2023/24 season, Granada were relegated to the Segunda division after finishing bottom of the La Liga table.
Unión Deportiva Almería, S.A.D.
Almería was founded on 26 July 1989 and known as Almería Club de Fútbol until 2001, when it was renamed Unión Deportiva Almería. The club was relegated at the end of the 2023/24 season after a 19th-place finish.
Cádiz Club de Fútbol, S.A.D.
Cádiz is a Spanish professional football club based in Cádiz, Andalusia. Founded in 1910, the club competes in the Segunda División after finishing 18th in the La Liga (2023/24).

Club Deportivo Leganés, S.A.D. is a football club based in Leganés, Community of Madrid. Leganés will play in La Liga after receiving automatic promotion following their maiden Segunda title win. After a four-season absence, Leganes returned to La Liga for the 2024/25 season.
Real Valladolid
Real Valladolid Club de Fútbol, S.A.D., or Real Valladolid, is a Spanish professional football club based in Valladolid. After a year’s absence, they returned to La Liga for the 2024-25 season.
RCD Espanyol
Reial Club Deportiu Espanyol de Barcelona, interpreted as “Royal Spanish Sports Club of Barcelona,” is commonly known as RCD Espanyol. They returned to the top flight after a single season of absence.
