Search for data providers

The idea for Fotboll.com popped up in November 2016, and the first line of code was written on 1 January 2017, shortly after the launch of Sportmonks. Much research was done to find providers of sports data APIs that included everything we needed to build the excellent football website we had in mind.

We decided to give Sportmonks a try. Today, six years later, both have grown exponentially alongside each other. Still, our product is entirely built on Sportmonks API, and we are very happy that we made that decision.

Sportmonks is providing all the data we use from 4,539 football teams in 102 leagues, cups and tournaments, which includes a total of 65,893 players and hundreds of thousands of football matches.

There are a few things that put the cherry on the cake when it comes to Sportmonks API, and that’s the fact that we even get images of each team’s arena in the API, which we can use to make our match pages look great.

How was it to get started?

It was straightforward to get started, especially since we have in-house knowledge of working with APIs. Of course, we found a few non-accurate things over the years, but with super fast and constructive support, I can only think of a situation that was solved immediately.

Where you able to reach your goals?

I believe we have had more than enough data and information since day one to build the site’s first beta and develop and expand the site. We can still be very creative with the API, even on such a level that we have features and functionality in the pipeline and the “idea box” we have never seen on any other football site.

So, there’s much more exciting stuff to come!
