Internships

First and foremost, we create positions for trainees. In recent years, we have established developer and marketing trainee opportunities. A traineeship helps the students grow their skills and bring these into practice. We have had many trainees, and many stayed at Sportmonks after their traineeship ended. At Sportmonks, they get the time, resources, and encouragement to develop their skills.

Let’s introduce you to some of them.

Development

Sportmonks offers internships for developers to empower them to grow their development skills. Developers can cooperate with versatile and challenging projects. They can work with our backend and front-end systems. Besides that, they can work on our API, database, other products, and many side projects.

Jesse was a trainee a few years back and stayed at Sportmonks as a backend developer. He has worked at Sportmonks for four years and has become important in the evolution of our Football API; he was one of the key players when we upgraded from API 2.0 to API 3.0.

Milan was an intern almost three years ago. He is a front-end developer and works on our customer portal (MySportmonks) and our Football Widgets. Milan makes sure our customers’ shopping experience is optimal. Besides that, he creates widgets with the data inside our API so other people can use our data without using our API.

Abe was a trainee less than a year ago. He is a backend developer and is working to improve odds data. “I enjoyed that I wasn’t a number and could work on important projects. I got involved in all kinds of projects and this way I was able to learn all kinds of new things.”

Sportmonks is an international company, and that is why we are looking abroad for trainees as well. So, let’s meet David! David is from Colombia and is a developer. He is working on a side project, which we cannot discuss yet.

Marketing

As you can see, all interns have significantly impacted Sportmonks with essential roles in major projects or new products. But we don’t offer internships for developers only. We also have a marketing department that has welcomed interns.

Wesley was one of the first interns when Sportmonks started to become the real deal. He stayed at Sportmonks after his traineeship ended and worked his way up to marketing lead, which is a big responsibility.

Marik came in as a marketing student. Now, he can take the experience he gained, which was essential for his development, into the work field at Sportmonks. “I have learned many things and gained experience that I couldn’t have reached at school. In the end I got a job out of my internship.”

Hiring

Keep in mind that Sportmonks is a big company that is always looking for interns. Interns can help us out while they can improve their skills. Above, only a few of the interns who stayed at Sportmonks are introduced.

Qubes’ challenge

Qube RT is a company working with schools to create a challenge/project for students. “Each year, we organise machine learning challenges from data provided by public services, companies and laboratories”. This year, for the challenge, they came across Sportmonks. Think about the options real quick. There are a lot of secrets in Sportsdata. If Qube anonymises the data, students could investigate which players are most likely to earn a transfer, find perfect fits for a specific player in other teams, and predict match results. There are many more options to challenge the students.

These challenges are great for students to show their skills to their fellow students and the participating companies and schools. Besides that, they can earn a prize for winning.

List of schools

Another way we help students is by giving them free access to our API to help them get the data they need for their school projects. We help students or groups of students by giving them access to our API so they can complete their school projects, or we help the complete department of a school to get data needed for specific projects. Schools we have worked with in the past two years are:

Edit code school / Digital Dalmatia (Croatia)
University of Toronto (Canada)
Concordia University in Montreal (Canada)
University of Arkansas (USA)
Wigan & Leigh College in Wigan (England)
Hogeschool Utrecht (The Netherlands)
FESP – Faculty of Higher Education of Paraná (Brazil)
University of Madrid (Spain)
WULS (SGGW in Polish) college in Warsaw (Poland)
Ramot Yam School (Israel)
Higher School of Computer Engineering (ESEI) in Ourense (Spain).
Multiple Universities (Turkey)
