João Cancelo (Player ID: 160956)
According to the scouts of Sportmonks, this might be one of the most unexpected transfers during this transfer period. FC Bayern Münich snatched Cancelo on loan with an option to buy. The Portuguese wing-back is worth €70,000,000 and played seventeen Premier League matches for Manchester City this season.
Cancelo scored two goals and provided one assist in seventeen matches for the Citizens.
Bayern is number one in the Bundesliga. The last couple of matches ended in a draw, and they only lead by one point. Cancelo can play as a right- or left-back. He will compete for these positions with Alphonso Davies and Noussair Mazraoui, among others. Will Bayern Be able to be the champion of the Bundesliga again? And what about the Champions League?
Enzo Fernandéz (Player ID: 29709995)
The best young player of the World Cup 2022 in Qatar joined Chelsea. After an impressive World Cup 2022 and a great first half of the season, Fernández switched clubs.
For Benfica, he played 29 matches in the Primeira Liga, scored four goals, and provided seven assists. He played seven games at the World Cup, scored one goal, and assisted once. He was one of the reasons Argentina is the World Champion now.
His net worth is around €55,000,000, and he was bought for €120,000,000. The total amount spent by Chelsea this season is €610,000,000. This transferwindow they got eight new signings.
Mykhalo Mudryk (Player ID: 9938919)
Mykhalo Mudryk is one of the most expensive players transferred this window. With his 22 years and lots of potential, he was bought by Chelsea for about €100,000,000. At the moment of writing, his new club is in tenth place, which is way too low for a club as Chelsea. This ranking might explain the aggression of Chelsea in this winter’s transfer window.
Mudryk is an interesting player. He showed what he could do in the Champions League with his former club Shakhtar Donetsk. He scored three goals and gave two assists in the six games he played for Shakhtar in the group stage. In the Premier Liga of Ukraine, he scored seven goals in twelve matches and gave six assists. He scored one goal and provided two assists in a 1-4 win over Red Bull Leipzig.
Will Mudryk be able to help Chelsea get back in the saddle?
Cody Gakpo (Player ID: 30062)
The third player that went to the Premier League in this list is Cody Gakpo. Liverpool is in ninth place at the time of writing. This is different from the level Liverpool wants to show. Cody’s net worth is estimated to be around €60,000,000, while Liverpool was able to snatch him away from PSV for €42,000,000.
At the World Cup, he scored three goals for the Netherlands. In the Eredivisie, he was the best player of PSV. He managed to give twelve assists and score nine goals. In the Europa League, he played five matches, scored three goals, and provided two assists.
Will Gakpo be the player to change the course of Liverpools’ Premier League campaign?
Jorginho (Player ID: 129511)
Jorginho is joining Arsenal for only €11,300,000 while still being estimated to have a net worth of €35,000,000. This season he played 25 matches and scored three goals for the club from London. He is now joining Arsenal, who is in the number-one spot in the Premier League.
Is the Italian joining the future champion of the Premier League?
João Félix (Player ID: 163152)
The third player on this list to move to the Premier League. He left La Liga on loan and started for Chelsea immediately but got sent off by the referee in his debut.
The attacker scored four goals and gave three assists in fourteen La Liga matches this season. When writing, Chelsea only scored 22 goals in 20 matches. Will the 23-year-old attacker be able to get Chelsea to score more goals?
Anthony Gordon (Player ID: 9611543)
Newcastle United bought Gordon from Everton for around €46,000,000. Everton has a lousy season and is losing one of the players that played sixteen matches this season.
The leftwinger scored three goals in the sixteen matches and couldn’t give an assist. Newcastle United is in third place at the time of writing, with 33 goals scored and eleven goals conceded. We are excited to see how the Englishman will do with his new club.
Benoît Badiashile (Player ID: 4545394)
Chelsea was able to buy a lot of players in this transfer window. Here is another one Benoît Badiashile, he is a twenty-one-year-old defender. As mentioned earlier, Chelsea scored 22 goals. However, they conceded 21 in 20 matches.
Badiashile played two matches for Chelsea in the Premier League, and they got a clean sheet in both games. One of the matches was the 0-0 draw on an away day versus Liverpool, and the other was a 1-0 home win over Crystal Palace.
Arnaut Danjuma (Player ID: 26491)
Tottenham Hotspurs was able to get Danjuma on loan. The 25-year-old Dutchman already scored his first goal for the Spurs on his debut. He wasn’t in the World Cup squad of the Netherlands.
In La Liga, he played ten matches and scored twice for Villareal. He scored seven goals in eighteen games this season (including his debut goal for the Spurs in the FA Cup). Tottenham is in fifth place and has scored 40 goals and conceded 31. They are fourteen points behind the number one in the Premier League (also their biggest rival), Arsenal.
Leandro Trossard (Player ID: 61780)
The Premier League leaders, Arsenal, bought Leandro Trossard for around €24,000,000 from Brighton & Hove Albion. This season he scored seven goals in his seventeen Premier League matches. Besides that, the Belgian player gave three assists.
Arsenal is the Premier League leader, with 45 goals scored and sixteen goals conceded. They are five points ahead of Machester City. The question is, did Trossard join the new Premier League champion?
Wout Weghorst (Player ID: 25317)
Wout Weghorst is not on this list because he is the most refined player in the world. But when he is playing, he works very hard, and he manages to score goals. If this 30 years-old striker is used right at Manchester United, he will be a force to be reckoned with.
Burnley sent Weghorst on loan to Besiktas to play in the Süper Lig. The thirty-year-old scored eight goals and gave four assists in sixteen matches. In the World Cup, he scored two goals for the Netherlands in the matchup versus Argentina in the quarter-finals. Will he be able to help United score more goals? They are in fourth place at the time of writing, with 32 goals scored and 25 conceded.
Memphis Depay (Player ID: 929)
Memphis Depay was on a dead-end track at FC Barcelona and went to Atlético Madrid for only €3,000,000. His contract was almost extended at Barca. He played 42 matches for FC Barcelona, in which he managed to score fourteen goals and give two assists.
His net worth is estimated at €20,000,000. He seems to be the direct replacement for João Félix.
Noni Madueke (Player ID: 25217662)
Noni Madueke is one of the most surprising transfers this winter. Chelsea bought the rightwinger from PSV for €35,000,000, while his net worth is around €15,000,000.
The most interesting thing about this is that he only played five full matches for PSV since the 19/20 season. This season he only played nine games for PSV, five in the Eredivisie, one in the KNVB Beker and three in the Europa League. He scored two goals in 471 minutes. He is the third attacker Chelsea bought in this list.
Malo Gusto (Player ID: 37317367)
Malo Gusto is a nineteen-year-old right back that played for Olympique Lyon in the Ligue 1. Chelsea bought the player for around €30,000,000. It seems Chelsea is seeing a lot of potential in Gusto. He gave one assist as well. He played fifteen matches in the Ligue 1 this season.
As English clubs nearly doubled the previous January window record of €480m, set in 2018, Chelsea led the way, breaking the British transfer record with the €120 million signing of Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernández and the €100 million purchase of the Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk. Amazingly, Chelsea spent more on transfers overall than any clubs in the Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A, and Ligue 1, as well as more than all Premier League clubs combined.
In this transfer window, Premier League clubs have spent nearly four times as much as clubs in the other “big five” leagues of Europe, allowing them to keep their key players while luring elite talent from abroad. The most recent numbers show that English football’s top-flight clubs spent a total of €3.1 billion during the 2022–23 season, above the €2.1 billion spent in 2017–18. This includes the €2.1 billion spent on players during the summer transfer window.
Many clubs in Europe have sold some of their most valued players to other leagues, especially the Premier League, in an effort to prioritise their financial viability. However, the top-flight in English football doesn’t show signs of slowing down.
What do you think about this list? Which transfers are going to be top or a major flop?
