Favourites: Brazil (Group D)
Surely, you would agree with us that any list without Brazil should be thrown in the bin.
Despite failing to reach lofty heights in the recent past, the five-time FIFA World Cup champions are always favourites in any major football tournament.
Led by the 62-year-old Dorival Júnior, who slipped into the managerial role in January, Brazil will be aiming for a 10th Copa America title, having last won in 2019.
While his CV may lack big European club names, don’t be fooled by his credentials. Júnior was handpicked for his wealth of local experience in the national league.
His 22-year-long managerial career, from his debut at Ferroviária in 2002 until his departure from São Paulo in January 2024, was in Brazil.
While Júnior remains unbeaten in four games with the Brazilian team, the Little Canary have only lost once in the previous five games(LWDWD) leading up to Copa America.
Alisson, who kept eight clean sheets in 28 appearances for Liverpool in the just-concluded season, will likely be Brazil’s first choice in goal.
Éder Militão, who helped Madrid finish as the best defensive side in La Liga, will join Gabriel in defence.
Gabriel was a key figure for Arsenal last season, helping his side come within whiskers of the Premier League title as the best defensive side.
After 28 successful tackles in 48 attempts and 44 key blocks for the Gunners, Gabriel will be keen to bring his aggressive, no-nonsense defensive qualities to the Brazilian side.
Key figures in Madrid’s 15th UCL title-winning campaign, a speedy Rodrygo and a tricky Vinícius Júnior, will surely cause panic among even the best defensive sides in the tournament.
Vinícius Jr. was Madrid’s second-highest goal scorer last season with 15 goals. While Lucas Paquetá’s creativity will be seen in midfield, keep an eye out for teenage superstar Endrick.
The 17-year-old will celebrate his next birthday one week after the tournament’s final and will be in Madrid’s colours next season.
Endrick has scored three goals, all from the bench, in six appearances with the Brazilian national team.
Lethal in front of goal, the left-footed forward will be eager to prove his worth as Brazil’s next-best emerging talent during the three-week-long tournament.
Barring any surprises, a first-place finish in Group D, which also features Paraguay, Colombia, and Costa Rica, should be a walk in the park for Seleção.
