UEFA Euro Winners

The UEFA Euro, held every four years, has taken place since 1960 and is contested by the national teams of Europe. The sixteen European Championship tournaments have been won by ten national teams.

 

1960, Soviet Union

The Soviet Union won the first-ever UEFA European Championship (commonly known as the Euro) in 1960. The tournament was held in France, and the Soviet Union was one of four teams to qualify. The other teams were Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, and the host France.

In the semi-finals, the Soviet Union defeated Czechoslovakia 2-0, while Yugoslavia beat France 3-2. This set up a final between the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia, which the Soviet Union won 2-1.
